Listen to a ring-billed gull.

The adult has a pale gray mantle, yellow bill with black ring, pale eyes, yellowish legs, and head streaked with brown in winter. It is common and widespread in North America.

The gull's voice is high and hoarse with a scratchy quality. Long call begins with long high squeals, then rapid phrases, ending with long slurred notes. Also a repeated high kuleeeeuk and kleeeea. The flight call is a high, thin keeel.
