What a great little book -- not just for young birders, but a beginning birder of any age! I love that this book is now a guide for North America & includes western birds because it's going to my nephew in California for his birthday. I think this would also be an excellent field guide for anyone who leads birding hikes for people of all ages & levels of birding expertise.
Although I am an adult, I enjoy this field guide as much as the kids I lead. The photos are great and as are the illusrations (I am also a working illustrator and am VERY critical). I love the 'WOW' circle, loaded with an interesting bit about each species. The writing is clear and informative and is a perfect companion 'out there' whether you are 12 or 112!!
