"Since childhood, songbirds have been my favorites. I love watching, sketching, and creating watercolor paintings of them. They also lend themselves to interpretation more than do many larger birds, which tend to force a personality on the artist. The cardinal is certainly a very familiar bird to most of us, but I am still moved by seeing them. I have painted them many times, but being a subjective artist, am never at a loss for new painting ideas."
David Plank's work has been exhibited several times in "Birds in Art" at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum. His paintings and drawings were included in Arkansas Birds--Their Distribution and Abundance. He was the artist for the 1992 book, The Birds of Missouri, published by the University of Missouri.
