"I decided to paint this barn owl in a somewhat heroic or triumphant pose. With a glorious winter sunset behind him, he is perched well above the rest of the landscape. Unfortunately, as malls and housing developments replace farmland, this beautifully marked, medium-sized owl is becoming scarce in many areas."
