When you're walking, especially if you walk in the same place every day, you create little destinations that keep your interest, keep you coming back. She loves to show them to people who stop to wonder what she's looking at. That's the best kind of birding: showing marvelous things to people who might not otherwise get to see them. I painted this for her, hoping that someday she'll happen upon a matched pair, red and gray. Probable? No. But possible, and it's the possible that keeps us looking up.
