“Early in my career I had the privilege of working on one of Perry Wilson’s museum dioramas depicting the display of sage-grouse. Since then, I’d always wanted to see this magnificent spectacle in the wild. Last year, on a painting trip to Wyoming, my wish came true. I located a lek in the foothills of the Grand Tetons. Arriving at 5 a.m., I set up my scope and sketched for about four hours, as dawn began to illuminate the birds.”
Brenda Carter spent most of her life painting in the field. Her adventure-packed visits to the Canadian Arctic, Alaska, Africa, Australia, Europe, Antarctica, and South America resulted in a rich legacy of paintings. Carter’s work has been exhibited and commissioned worldwide by corporations and organizations such as the Canadian and National Geographic Societies, the Remington Art Museum, the Canadian Museum of Nature, and the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto.
