“When I was living in the northernmost tip of New York state, in a town called Potsdam, I used to delight in hiking during the long, cold North Country winters. The landscape was sublime; essentially flat, rocky, and forested with maple, birch, and conifers. One day I was finishing my hike at dusk when I came across a lone sapsucker on a dying birch in the middle of a pasture. The bird seemed to be sitting quietly in meditation watching a large full moon looming close to the horizon. This incredible scene has been in my mind for more than 25 years, and in this painting I finally got a chance to set it free. I hope you find this scene as magical as I did.”

Michael DiGiorgio is a nationally recognized artist whose painting style reflects his keen observations in the field. He has won an endowment award from the Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia in recognition of his bird illustration work, given in memory of Don Eckelberry. He is currently illustrating plates for a new guide to Brazil with Robert Ridgley and Guy Tudor.

A limited edition of 300 prints has been created in a horizontal format. The actual image size is 14" x 10", the matted size is 18" x 14", and the framed sized is approximately 20" x 16". Each print is signed and numbered by the artist. The full-color reproduction is printed on a neutral pH, acid-free paper.
