"It wasn’t until we lived in the woods that I understood just how much woodpeckers enjoy berries. Each fall our menagerie of woodpeckers takes full advantage of the wild grapes, Virginia creeper, and dogwoods on our land. In painting Grape Harvest, it was fun to duplicate the spots and yellow feathers of the flicker amid the grapes and yellow leaves."
