"Of my numerous encounters with kestrels during birding trips to North America, those around a vineyard's wooded border by the Niagara Escarpment provided both the theme and seasonal backdrop for this painting. Rarely have I had the privilege of observing a kestrel as closely as the one depicted here, even back home where the larger (though less attractive?), native Eurasian kestrels can be commonly seen."
