"As an artist with a deep appreciation for intense color, I was delighted to paint the purple gallinule, with its rich purple plumage, candy corn bill, and those crazy yellow feet. These flamboyant characters, secretly peering from pickerelweed, effortlessly grasping a single reed with oversized feet, in their home of water and greenery, reminded me of my many visits to the coastal states of the Southeast and the thrill of catching a glimpse of bright color in the swampy marshes."
Lisa K. Walraven obtained a BFA in Studio Arts from the Ohio University. Her original painting style has evolved since her move to the Southwest, which is rich in unique flora and fauna. Intense color and pattern, bold outline, and a stylized subject matter define her work. Lisa's designs have been used for birding festival logos, t-shirts, and banners. She currently works from her studio in Bisbee, Arizona, and sells her work through various galleries and shops.
