"While field-sketching for this painting for BWD, I discovered a hitherto unknown breeding pair of piping plovers on a secluded beach in Old Lyme, Connecticut. After protectively posting the nesting area, I used a spotting scope to observe the birds, sketching and finally painting them from life."
