David Sibley has been captivated by birds since he was seven years old. He spent most of the 1980s and 1990s traveling throughout North America, watching and drawing birds and frequently visiting national wildlife refuges. This work led to the publication in 2000 of The Sibley Guide to Birds, a comprehensive guide to identification of North American birds, and several subsequent books. Sibley continues to work on bird identification and bird conservation issues around North America. He lives in Concord, Massachusetts, where he frequently visits Great Meadows NWR.
