"I was born and raised in southeastern North Carolina. Our backyard joined my Aunt Della's wonderfully overgrown property, which my brother and I called the "jungle." As a little boy my first particular bird experience was with the resident gray catbirds. I had long conversations with them trying to mimic their call. One of my very first watercolors was of a catbird on our pink dogwood. Although 50 plus generations removed from those first individuals, I still feel a close kinship with catbirds."
