"The highly sought-after elegant trogon is the quintessential bird of southeast Arizona. I spent 10 years living there, and the last time I saw this bird was just as exciting and amazing as the very first time. The scene in this painting depicts a nesting pair of trogons in a sycamore, with the female poking out of the hole at the beckoning of her mate. That star-shaped sycamore leaf placed behind her head is intentional—because in my view she is the star."
Lisa K. Walraven obtained a BFA in Studio Arts from the Ohio University. The birds she paints are graphic, bold, and bright color is almost always used. Intense pattern, outline, and the subject matter (birds and mammals) define her work. Lisa's designs have been used for bird-festival logos, t-shirt designs, and banners. Her current studio is a yurt (a circular tent) in her backyard, outside of Asheville, North Carolina. Her work can be viewed in shops and galleries in Arizona and in North Carolina or by visiting her website: www.wrensandravens.com.
