All About Bluebirds!
By and large, bluebirds are country folk, but if you live near farmland or open space and see them in your area, we hope you'll try to give them a home. Our bluebirds section will guide you through the essentials of attracting and keeping bluebirds. There is a lot more to it than simply nailing a box up and walking away. If you go into bluebird housekeeping aware of the responsibilities and put extra effort into predator-proofing and monitoring your boxes. You and the bluebirds will be winners. Best of all, providing homes for bluebirds helps a species that really needs it. Bluebirds have lost ground everywhere losing habitat to development and reforestation of farmlands, losing nest sites to introduced house sparrows and starlings, losing their lives to pesticides and herbicides. Bluebirds bring so much joy. It's time to give them something in return. For further information about bluebirds and all the other birds that share your feeder, yard, or garden check out our booklet, Enjoying Bluebirds More by Julie Zickefoose. Julie is an artist/naturalist who cares deeply about bluebirds. Her direct experience shines through her writing and artwork, making Enjoying Bluebirds More a comprehensive and compelling guide to the joys of providing for bluebirds. Enjoy! Section Features |
