Recycle Your Christmas Tree

by Annalea Glynn

I recycle my Christmas tree to provide cover for my backyard birds. After I've removed all ornaments and tinsel, I take the tree out to our feeding station, where I prop it up in our ever-present brush pile. I usually remove a few of the lower branches so that the longer trunk will provide more support.

Feeder birds seem to feel more secure with this additional cover, and the tree helps block winter winds. This year I plan to add our wreaths and holly branches to the brush pile too.
