There's been a noticeable trend in bird book publishing toward a more and more regional and local focus. With a crowded field of North American field guides, publishers and authors are now creating bird and nature books based on limited areas: ecoregions, states, and even smaller pieces of the planet. One recent example of this trend, and one of the best state bird books of recent vintage, is Birds of Ohio published by Canadian publisher Lone Pine and written by leading Ohio birder Jim McCormac with assistance from Gregory Kennedy.
