A Lifelong Passion for Birds and Great Publications

We launched Bird Watcher’s Digest in 1978 from our living room in Marietta, Ohio. We knew very little about the publishing business back then, but we did have a passion for watching birds and a commitment to serving our customers. Over the years we’ve learned a great deal about our fellow bird watchers and our goal of providing them with the world’s greatest bird magazine has never changed.

Bird Watcher’s Digest

For more than 30 years, Bird Watcher’s Digest has been entertaining and informing bird watchers with our blend of excellent feature articles, bird species profiles, accounts of birding adventures, and stunning art and photography. Each issue of BWD covers a variety of topics including bird feeding, birding hot spots, choosing birding gear, and improving your bird-spotting and identification skills.

But most of all, BWD is delightfully enjoyable to read from cover to cover. Why? Because BWD is created and published by bird watchers, for bird watchers. We think you’ll agree that once you open your first issue of Bird Watcher’s Digest, you won’t be able to put it down. Published six times each year (in January, March, May, July, September, and November), this digest-sized magazine is also available digitally from a web browser or as an app on mobile devices. Print subscribers receive free access to digital editions, and digital-only subscriptions are available. To subscribe, please click here.

Watching Backyard Birds

In June 2013, a sister magazine to BWD debuted: Watching Backyard Birds, North America’s only magazine dedicated to backyard birds. We pack each issue full of how-to tips on feeding and housing birds, backyard bird identification, gardening and landscaping for birds and wildlife, and with answers to your questions, and photos and stories from backyard bird watchers across the continent. Each issue profiles a common backyard bird species.

WBB was created with the backyard bird watcher in mind, so you’ll find useful tips and helpful suggestions on every page—information designed to help you enjoy your backyard birds even more. This digest-size, 32-page magazine is also published six times each year, in months alternating with BWD (February, April, June, August, October, and December). It is available in print and digitally on the web. To subscribe, please click here.
