Weather: Absolutely beautiful! Sunny with clouds, temperatures from 55-90, south breeze 0-5 mph.

Location: North Sentinel Park, Lake Thunderbird, Norman, OK

Time At Location: 12 AM to 7 PM

The numbers: 17 hours, 22 people, 2 dogs, and 59 species of birds. 1st bird of the day was a Great Horned Owl and the last bird, a Merlin. Highlights included a kettle of Swainson's Hawks, Turkey Vultures, and 2 Black Vultures (rare for Cleveland County); a flyover by a flock of 9 Wood Ducks; the single Black-throated Green Warbler who brought great satisfaction to the listers amongst us due to its rarity this far west; and the truly wonderful camaraderie.

This year we had better weather, better optics, and better ears. We beat our inaugural attempt by 12 species and have a new number to challenge us next year. Misses included Northern Cardinal, Tufted Titmouse, American Robin and American Goldfinch. We hope to have a better handle on nocturnal flight calls by next October!
