A rain fly over the observation platform kept the participants dry and comfortable. The low cloud ceiling limited migration activity. The Oiseaux du Jour were 7 White-winged Scoters and a calling Greater Yellowlegs.35 species were tallied from the Big Sit site plus another 5 seen along the trail that did not count for the Big Sit total. The 2012 count of 35 ties last years count number. A total of 71 species have been recorded in six Big Sit years.

Two Otter and 3 Moose were the only other mammals observed. This writer made a minor identification mistake with one of the moose in the twilight before dawn. He thought he was following another team member wearing light colored pants and a dark top. He tried to catch up while carrying a heavy pack and yelled to the unnamed person to wait. That is when the bull moose turned his head to see who was behind him. The hind legs of moose are light colored and in the darkness and rain these things happen. The writer followed the moose for almost a mile past the viewing platform where the other team member got to see it and discuss being mistaken for the hind end of a moose.
