Team Notes

Participants: Cheryl Huizinga, Cathy Eells, Betty Renstrom, Dave Lawrence, Genevieve Johanson, John Shortis, Fred Hill, Billie Farley, Letty Percifield, Jim Holcomb, Bob Kiernan, JC Bratcovich

Weather: 39 degrees for a low and 62 degrees for the high. Mostly sunny with slight breeze. Clouded up in the afternoon.

Location: Lake Lowell Park on Iowa St, Public park across from Upper Dam Boat Launch because of the Federal shutdown of Deer Flat NWR.

Time At Location: 7 AM to 7 PM - 12 hours.

12 Birders cam and went throughout the day. All contributed to the species being seen. Since it was a public park, the traffic and people noise was loud at times, but it didn't seem to make a difference in our count. Some of the public came to the circle to talk with us and to see what we were doing. Channel 6 came in the afternoon and did a segment on the Big Sit. Jim Holcomb did the talking.

We had a friendly competition with the Ada Co. Big Sit at Hyatt Wetlands with Robert Mortensen in charge there. We texted and Facebooked throughout the day to check on each other's progress. They started out strong but we prevailed in the end and beat them by 4 species - 55-51. We had 11 more species than last year! Fantastic effort by all involved. We just might have the circle in this area again next year!
