Team Notes

Participants: Herb Fibel, organizer; Mark Larson,Tom and Rosalinda Partel, Adam and Phyllis Martin

Weather: Sunny--low 66 degrees, high 82 degrees--breeze picked up a little in the afternoon (In other words PERFECT

Location: At the ranch at Rio Verde, adjacent to the Verde River and the Tonto National Forest, north of Fountain Hills in Maricopa Count,

Time At Location: 9 1/2 hours

The government shutdown forced us to change location or date. We chose to change location after 17 years at our old site, or risk being known as "The Double Asterisks" We did not have our usual panoramic view of a reservoir, and this cut our species numbers way down. Our site was, nevertheless, gorgeous. The plus $800 raised will go to the American Bird Conservancy to help acquire the Paton House in Patagonia, Arizona. (Where the other Arizona Big Sit! took place.)

We added one new species to our cumulative species of 141 for the prior 17 years. Birding highlights were the two species of hummingbird that came to the feeder right at the border of our circle, a tail-dipping Gray Flycatcher, an adult Bald Eagle being harassed by a Common Raven, and a Belted Kingfisher almost dive bombing us.
