Team Notes

Participants: Piedmont Pishers, Piedmont Bird Club, Greensboro, North Carolina

Weather: Clear and cool with a good breeze - following a day of strong winds and very heavy rain compliments of Hurricane Matthew

Location: The Bog Garden in Greensboro,North Carolina

Time At Location: 6:00 am to 6:50 pm

Sunday was the first ever Big Sit sponsored by the Piedmont Bird Club in Greensboro, NC, a group known in Big Sit Land as the Piedmont Pishers. It will not be the last. Our site was Greensboro’s Bog Garden, a nature preserve, botanical garden and city park. Twenty-one members of PBC participated along with several other walk-throughs who were interested in what was happening. The birds were very cooperative as well, with a total of 52 species being identified from our count circle. We sat on Sunday rather than Saturday because of strong winds and very heavy rain on Saturday. Sunday dawned clear and cool with a good breeze throughout most of the day. Pishers began their vigil in the dark at 6 am and concluded the Sit at 6:50 pm when one of the resident and hoped for Barred Owls called three times at dusk. Our circle was staffed constantly throughout that period. Our first Big Sit can best be summed up: And A Good Time Was Had by All!
