Team Notes

Participants: Sixteen folks came and went throughout the day staying for varying periods, team captain was on hand entire 12hrs. of Sit. Publicized by our local Audubon Chapter, Golden Eagle Audubon of SW ID (GEAS) as a short day field trip.

Weather: Light frost at set up. Bright, sunny, very cool all day, constant 10mph wind, variable direction at times.

Location: Hyatt Hidden Lakes Reserve, a Boise, Idaho city park

Time At Location: Length of Sit, 12hrs. 0630-1830 MDT, first 30mins. for set up, shut down 30mins before scheduled end at 1900 due to sunset.

Good day as usual to be out birding. Constant breeziness all day made for a bit of wind chill and seemed to be keeping some birds down. Lot of foot traffic from park users but few approached us to ask about what we were doing. Most of those who joined me were first-timers at a Sit. Enjoyed their company. Getting much more deaf these days, so fortunate to be joined by some who could hear a few birds that I otherwise would not have known were there. Had to set up alone before light but four folks returned to help in late P.M., Beth, John, Mary and Colleen, to move me out and end the day. Many thanks to them and all who came by. Due to a schedule conflict I was not able to do a Big Sit! last year here but I noticed in the interim that there had been much growth in the trees enough such that I was not able to see much of the main pond this year I may have to find another place for a next time. Will consider.

Had a couple birds in the running for Best Bird of the Day: one of our DEJU's was a Slate-colored and the Merlin was a Black, or Pacific, out hunting. Even though there were waterfowl aplenty I would say that "Red-shafted" NOFL's were the bird dujour, just constantly everywhere around us.
