Warbling Vireo

Mystery Vireo #1

Let’s start with one of the more common vireos, one whose rollicking song is familiar throughout most of North America. What it lacks in coloring and strong markings is certainly made up for with its cheerful vocalization.

Answer: Warbling vireo. Aptly named, the warbling vireo is such a persistent songster that it even sings from the nest! Twentieth-century ornithologist William Dawson described the song as “fresh as apples and as sweet as apple blossoms.”
