"While field-sketching for this painting for BWD, I discovered a hitherto unknown breeding pair of piping plovers on a secluded beach in Old Lyme, Connecticut. After protectively posting the nesting area, I used a spotting scope to observe the birds, sketching and finally painting them from life."

Julie Zickefoose is an accomplished artist, naturalist, writer, and songbird rehabilitator originally from East Haddam, Connecticut. She sketches birds and animals directly from life. Julie has contributed artwork and writing to Bird Watcher's Digest since 1986. She lives on a farm in Whipple, Ohio, with her husband Bill Thompson, III, and her two children.

A limited edition of 300 prints has been created in a horizontal format. The actual image size is 12" x 9", the matted size is 16" x 13", and the framed sized is approximately 18" x 15". Each print is signed and numbered by the artist. The full-color reproduction is printed on a neutral pH, acid-free paper.
